Blue Shark II is a 32m wood-hull liveaboard boat that takes up to 20 guests to the best dive spots in the Maldives, whether it’s around the central, northern or southern atolls. The boat was constructed in 2008 and is powered by a Yanmar 350 PS engine and can cruise at 12 knots.
Blue Shark is a comfortable yet economy option for diving in the Maldives. The social areas include an air-conditioned saloon, as well as a partially shaded upper social area and sundeck replete with loungers and bean bags. The saloon acts as the dining area, where buffet style meals are served, and features an entertainment system and a library of books. There is also a coffee machine and a bar with chilled beer on tap.
Guests are accommodated in 10 double/twin spacious cabins with private bathrooms on the lower and upper decks. All cabins offer both air-conditioning and fans for personal comfort. Cabins are stocked with biodegradable shampoo and shower gel, and guests are issued with a refillable aluminium water bottle for the duration of the trip and metal drinking straws in order to reduce waste. You can also make use of the onboard wifi for cruise connectivity from your cabin or from the social areas onboard.
All diving activities are conducted from the accompanying 60 ft (18m) dhoni, where equipment is stored and tanks are filled. It features the tank compressors, free enriched air nitrox for EANx-certified divers, plus emergency oxygen, camera storage and rinse tanks. There is also a camera rinse tank on the dhoni so that underwater photographers can keep their equipment in tiptop condition between dives. Non-divers will have a great time too. They can go snorkelling whilst others go scuba diving. Frequent beach excursions are arranged, and there will be sunset drinks on deserted islands, and a weekly beach BBQ.

Diving environment: advanced divers, beginner divers, cage diving, caverns, drift diving, healthy reefs, off the beaten track, very popular, wall diving, wreck diving

Day 1
You will be met during the afternoon by a boat representative at Male International Airport. A short dhoni trip from the airport will take you to the Blue Shark One liveaboard. After a welcome drink, you can settle into your cabin and relax on board awaiting the arrival of all the other guests. You will be given a detailed boat and safety introduction. Dinner (or lunch and dinner, depending on your arrival time) will be served. The boat departs the harbour on your unforgettable cruise on the following morning.
Days 2-7
Cruises include 3 dives on most diving days among an impressive variety of marine life. You may experience some strong currents around the outer borders of the atolls, but you will get used to doing drift dives. These currents attract predators like whitetip and grey reef sharks, and also schools of tuna and oceanic manta rays. The pinnacles are often home to a beautiful array of soft and hard coral formations that attract life such as pufferfish, triggerfish, moray eels, and giant Napoleon wrasse, to name just a few of the colourful fauna that the Maldives Central Atolls are famous for. Looking for a better use of your wide angle lens? Whale sharks are a common sight in the waters of Ari Atoll too.
Your day starts at about 6:30 am with hot drinks and a simple breakfast before the first dive briefing of the day. The dhoni then takes you to the site for your fist dive. After a larger and full breakfast that includes fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurt, eggs, sausages, toast, beans, and cooked vegetables, you will make a second dive. A 3rd dive is conducted after lunch. Juice, tea and coffee are available all day, including Lavazza coffee. The food on board the Blue Shark is considered an important part of the trip experience. Lunch and dinner are local curries for a taste of Maldivian cuisine, fresh fish, meat and lots of vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, green beans and spinach, succulent fresh salads, rice and pasta. Desserts such as ice cream and fresh fruit are enjoyed at the end of each meal. A delicious barbecue on a deserted beach is also on the weekly schedule.
Please note that there is only 1 dive on the last full day of the trip, before heading back to Male.
Day 8
A chance to enjoy a final breakfast and say your farewells before the dhoni takes you back to the airport.
