Nestled within a secluded, 99-acre rainforest reserve on Vanua Levu, Sau Bay Resort & Spa offers a distinctive and intimate escape for discerning divers. This boutique retreat faces the renowned Somosomo Strait, positioning guests just moments from world-class dive sites while ensuring profound privacy and connection to the natural Fijian landscape. As Fiji's first PADI Eco Center, the resort operates with a deeply ingrained commitment to sustainability, making it a conscious choice for those who value environmental stewardship alongside exceptional diving.

Accommodation is exclusively limited to just 4 oceanfront cottages and one luxury safari-style tent, ensuring a maximum of 12 guests at any time. This scale fosters an atmosphere of personalised attention and serene seclusion. Each cottage is thoughtfully designed to blend indoor comfort with outdoor immersion, featuring private decks that overlook the tranquil bay. The experience of Sau Bay Resort & Spa is akin to being a welcomed guest in a remote, luxurious hideaway, far removed from the pace of larger resorts.

The diving operation is both convenient and conscientiously managed. The resort's private dive boat reaches the famed Rainbow Reef of Taveuni, home to the legendary Great White Wall and other iconic soft coral sites, in approximately 10 minutes. This proximity allows for flexible, relaxed schedules tailored to small groups. For leisurely exploration, a vibrant house reef is accessible directly from the shore, perfect for snorkelling or a peaceful afternoon dive.

Beyond the water, the resort's private estate invites exploration. Guests can hike through pristine rainforest trails, kayak or paddleboard across the calm bay, or simply unwind in a hammock surrounded by birdsong. The on-site spa, utilising natural, locally-inspired products, offers treatments designed to soothe muscles after diving and deepen the sense of rejuvenation. A weekly guided tour to a local village provides an authentic and respectful cultural connection.

Dining at Sau Bay is a personal experience, with meals often prepared using organic produce from the resort's own gardens and locally sourced seafood. The focus is on fresh, flavoursome cuisine served in settings that capitalise on the stunning views, from the open-air dining bale to private decks. This thoughtful approach extends to every detail, from homemade snacks to twice-daily housekeeping.

Ideal for couples, small groups of friends, or solo travellers seeking tranquillity, Sau Bay Resort & Spa delivers a rare combination: effortless access to some of Fiji's most spectacular scuba diving within a setting of extraordinary ecological and personal sanctuary. It is a destination where exceptional underwater adventures are seamlessly interwoven with above-water serenity and a genuine commitment to sustainable hospitality.
At Sau Bay Resort & Spa there are 3 Oceanfront Studio Cottages sleeping up to 3 people each, and 1 Oceanfront Deluxe Suite with 2 bedrooms sleeping a group of up to 4. Both have private en-suite bathrooms and outdoor showers. They also both have private decks with deck furniture in which to enjoy the sunsets.

There is also a tent like no other - a luxurious African tent for 2 people situated on higher ground, with seaviews and surrounded by the rainforest. It features all mod cons and an outdoor shower and private deck.

All the rooms have:

Being across the Somosomo Strait and just minutes from the world-famous Rainbow Reef means you can get to some of Fiji's best dive sites within a 10 minute boat ride. Even at full resort capacity there is a maximum of only 12 scuba divers on 2 boats so you can be sure of small groups and plenty of attention from the guides.

The main dive boat is a 10m custom built aluminium monohull vessel with a 225 HP engine and a maximum speed of 20 knots. It leaves at 8:45 am for 2 dives and return to the resort for lunch. 5 days of scuba or more include 2 extra free boat dives and free shore diving on the attractive house reef. Night dives can also be arranged.

All trips include divemaster (1 guide for every 6 divers), drinking water, towels, tanks, weights and weightbelts.

The dive centre at Sau Bay Resort & Spa is a PADI Eco Center, which is a designation granted to PADI Dive Centers and Resorts that demonstrate a dedication to conservation and dive industry sustainability. It has equipment storage and a camera room. Fresh water showers and rinse tanks (including separate camera tank) are also available at the centre. Sau Bay Resort has a state-of-the art Titan Nitrox membrane system by NUVAIR. The staff provide a kit transfer and rinsing service.

Diver safety: The 2 hyperbaric chambers of Fiji are both situated in Suva, Viti Levu, 300 km or a 90 minute flight away. Therefore to cover yourself for the risk of a scuba emergency, it is mandatory for you to have your own dive insurance.
The dive boat carries emergency oxygen and a first aid kit, as does the resort. The boat also carries life jackets, EPIRB, marine VHF radio, and flares.
For general accidents to guests, there is a hospital 6 km from the resort.
Sau Bay Resort & Spa is defined by its sense of seclusion and its integration with a pristine natural environment. Set within 99 acres of private, untouched rainforest, the resort offers a sanctuary where luxury is expressed through space, serenity, and a direct connection to Fijian nature. The experience is one of simplicity, allowing guests to fully unwind in a setting of exceptional beauty.

The expansive grounds are a haven for exploration. Well-maintained trails wind through the virgin rainforest, perfect for guided or independent hikes to discover native flora and fauna. On the water, the calm, sheltered bay is ideal for complimentary kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, or sailing in the resort’s dinghies. A unique feature is the ‘Castaway’, a private floating pontoon on the house reef equipped with a diving board, hammocks, and Bluetooth speakers, serving as a perfect base for snorkelling or a secluded sun deck.

For ultimate relaxation, the Somosomo Spa offers a range of treatments in a dedicated spa bale or on your private deck, utilising natural products to soothe and rejuvenate.
