Rocio Del Mar is a 110ft (34m) long steel-hulled liveaboard that explores Mexico's Pacific waters all year round, visiting Socorro, the Midriff Islands and the Sea of Cortez depending on your choice of itinerary. Up to 22 divers can be accommodated on board in cabins with private bathrooms on a range of different trips operating out of Puerto Penasco or San Jose del Cabo.

You can enjoy a free glass of beer or wine in the air-conditioned lounge or dedicated dining area, although the open air shaded sun deck is a more popular spot with its soft furnishings and ever-changing views of the Pacific ocean. Sea kayaks are available for those who wish to explore the islands during surface times.

10 crew attend to your every need and the scuba diving activities are conducted both from the stern of the mothership and from inflatable tenders, depending on the nature of the dive site. Nitrox is available at additional charge. The well-organized dive deck includes a camera table and rinse tank plus individual equipment stations.

Rocio Del Mar is comfortable and roomy without being palatial and is sure to satisfy the needs of those who seek an unforgettable Mexican liveaboard experience.

Mexico is a popular destination with limited liveaboard spaces. We recommend you book well in advance to avoid disappointment.

Dive experience: The only requirement to join liveaboard cruises in Mexico on Rocio Del Mar is an open water diving certification, although at least 50 prior logged dives are recommended. Divers should do their best to ensure they are comfortable at diving before coming on board.

Cruise price per person includes: Cabin accommodation, breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, drinking water, soft drinks, hot drinks, local beers and wine, dives (as detailed in the trips above), experienced English-speaking divemasters (1 guide for 7 divers), standard tanks, weights and weightbelts, Nautilus Lifeline (personal diver locator), port fees, and Mexican taxes on cruise price.

Cruise price per person excludes (mandatory, unless customer provides own): Scuba equipment (bring your own wetsuit, mask and fins), surface marker buoy, dive computer, whistle, dive and travel insurance, national park fee: Sea of Cortez (US$ 6 per dive day) and Socorro (US$ 192 per dive day), possible fuel surcharge. Note: park fees are waived for retirees and pensioners over the age of 60 years old. A 75% discount on park fees is available for active students and teachers. Unless otherwise stated, all the listed items need to be paid on arrival (cash or credit card).

Optional extras: Transfers to the boat from the airport/hotel (US$ 150 per person return from Phoenix airport), nitrox fills for enriched air divers (US$ 140 for the trip). Unless otherwise stated, all the listed items need to be paid on arrival. Note: prices of items purchased onboard are subject to change.

How to get there: Socorro: The Rocio del Mar liveaboard departs in the morning from San Jose del Cabo for trips to the Socorro islands. Guests fly into nearby Los Cabos international airport. You should plan to arrive the day before departure. Boarding is at 17:00 hrs with departure late in the evening. The marina is 25 minutes from the airport and 5 minutes from downtown San Jose del Cabo. An airport shuttle service can be arranged. The boat will spend the last night of the cruise in the harbor and disembark at 08:30 hrs on the last day.
Sea of Cortez: For diving tours to the Sea of Cortez, Rocio del Mar departs in the evening from Puerto Penasco, Mexico, on the northern coast of the Sea of Cortez. Most guests fly through Phoenix Sky Harbor airport, 4 hours drive from Puerto Penasco. An airport shuttle service can be arranged. Boarding is at 17:00 hrs and the boat departs at 17:00 hrs with the first dive at 07:00 hrs the following morning. Guests disembark on the final day at 07:00 and they should book flights from Phoenix no earlier than 14:00 hrs.
For more details, including airlines, see our Mexico tourist information section. The last dive of the trip will be at around 17:00 hrs on the second last day of the trip. Please wait at least 18 hours before flying after diving.

Non-diver rate: None.

Single supplement (if you do not want to share accommodation): This is optional - single travelers may choose to share a cabin or pay a supplement of 100% of the published price for their own private cabin.

Dive clubs and group discounts: Pay for 9 guests and 1 extra person can join the cruise in a Standard cabin free of charge.

Whole boat charter rate (per night): Pay for 18 guests and 2 additional persons can join the cruise free of charge (total 20 guests).

Day 1
Rocio Del Mar is located at the new marina in Puerto Los Cabos in San Jose del Cabo, which is 25 minutes from the airport. You will need to make your own way to the boat. Dinner will be served once all guests are on board. The captain and crew will welcome you and show you to your cabin. The liveaboard departs after midnight and you will arrive at San Benedicto in the evening of the next day. Meals will be served while at sea.

Days 2-9
Diving at the Socorro Islands is an unforgettable experience due to its large animal encounters. Mantas rays, dolphins, humpback whales (during the winter months) and 7 different types of sharks, including hammerheads, can be seen during your diving safari. Schools of trevallies, barracuda and tuna will be seen on each of the 2 or 3 dives during the first day, while 4 dives will be the norm for the rest of the tour, although there are no night dives are scheduled. You can also expect 3 dives while at Roca Partida, where tons of fish and sharks (whitetip, silvertip, silky, Galapagos, but also hammerheads and whale sharks when conditions are right). A unique experience! When not diving you can kayak or simply relax and familiarize with other guests on board.
An American style breakfast consists of pancakes, waffles muffins, toast, egg dishes, fresh fruit, juices, hot chocolate, coffee or tea will boost your energy for the active morning ahead. Lunch is typically sandwiches, burgers, fish tacos, fresh vegetables and fruit. Dinner starts with fresh vegetable salad, homemade soups, and has local fresh seafood or meat dishes as main courses. Day 1
Rocio Del Mar leaves Puerto Penasco late afternoon on Saturday, but you can check in from 5 pm onwards. The tour leader will assign you to your cabin and dive station so that you can unpack and get your gear ready for the diving on the next day. You will need to show your scuba diving certification cards and proof of dive insurance. Dinner is served at 7 pm.

Days 2-7
3 or 4 daily dives in clear and deep waters inhabited by abundant sea life. The Sea of Cortez hosts many migratory species, such as humpback whales that you have the chance to see from the boat when the yacht will be around San Pedro Martir, manta rays, leatherback sea turtles, mobula rays, dolphins, octopus and much more. One highlight of your vacation will be the sight of sea lion colonies on the Midriff Islands: curious sea lions will come close and tug at your fins or blow bubbles in front of you. A unique experience! When not diving you can hike and explore uninhabited islands, kayak, or simply relax and familiarize with other guests on board.
An American style breakfast consists of pancakes, waffles muffins, toast, egg dishes, fresh fruit, juices, hot chocolate, coffee or tea will boost your energy for the active morning ahead. The boat leaves port at 18:00 hrs. Dinner will be served after a warm welcome by the liveaboard captain and crew who also show you to your cabin.

Days 2-12
The Sea of Cortez has a very diverse marine life on show, with several species of nudibranchs, blennies, jawfish, several rays and guitarfish. Schools of fish will also entertain you and the other divers while underwater, looking for eels, octopus, seahorses, frogfish, Mexican horn sharks, schools of hammerheads and more. Pilotfin and sperm whales are also often seeing from the boat when sailing in between dive sites. Jacques Cousteau once described the Sea of Cortez as the 'world's aquarium', due to its untouched walls and reefs that host an incredible abundance of fish species. Whale sharks, mobula rays and sea lion colonies will be fond memories from this fantastic vacation.
An American style breakfast consists of pancakes, waffles muffins, toast, egg dishes, fresh fruit, juices, hot chocolate, coffee or tea will boost your energy for the active morning ahead. The liveaboard departs after midnight and you will arrive at San Benedicto in the evening of the next day. Meals will be served while at sea.

Days 2-13
Diving at the Socorro Islands and Clarion is an unforgettable experience due to its large animal encounters. The aim on board the Rocio del Mar liveaboard is to serve the best food possible using fresh ingredients and creating an imaginative menu. The '5 star' onboard chef creates freshly baked bread and homemade soups every day. Beginning with a pre-dive breakfast, the daily dining experience then involves a cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner, with snacks in between to keep the hunger at bay. You can expect an array of international cuisine with some delectable Mexican specialties.
