Apo Reef & Coron (8 Days / 7 Nights - 24 Dives)

Trip highlights: shark action, dolphins, manta rays, turtles, great macro life/ marine diversity, schooling fish & big pelagics

Diving environment: advanced divers, beginner divers, cage diving, caverns, drift diving, healthy reefs, off the beaten track, very popular, wall diving, wreck diving

Day 1
When you arrive in Manila, the PY Atlantis Azores staff will meet you at the international airport terminal and help you transfer to the fantastic 32m aluminium mono-hulled motor yacht, moored in Puerto Galera, Mindoro. There will be a land transfer (2.5-4 hrs) to Batangas and a ferry ride to Puerto Galera (1-2 hrs). Once on board, meet the crew and listen to a welcome briefing before being assigned to your cabin. You can unpack your dive gear while you wait for dinner to be served. Diving will start on the next day.

Days 2-7
Diving will keep you busy for most of the day, with 3 morning dives followed by an afternoon dive and a possible 5th night dive when conditions and location allow. The day starts with a small breakfast to energize you for the 1st dive, then a bigger breakfast of fresh fruit, hot entrees, cereals and juices should keep you satisfied for the duration of the next 2 dives.
Apo Reef is a great place to see whitetip and blacktip reef sharks, but also manta rays are sometimes spotted here, as well as hawksbill turtles and bumphead parrotfish.
Coron is a mecca for wreck divers: Japanese shipwrecks from the Second World War are there for you to explore. The Okikawa Maru is a 160m long ship which was sunk by a direct hit on the bow area. The Olympia Maru is another massive vessel of 120m, but the submarine East Tangat Gunboat is probably the most ideal for exploration as it is in shallow waters. Its 2 main boilers are covered in hard corals, while the deck is now home to many scorpionfish. You will also explore the Akitsusima, a sea plane tender, and Irako, a refrigeration ship for the Japanese Imperial Navy. At the end of a day of diving there is an optional visit to Coron's hot springs.
The main meals of the safari are served buffet-style in the air-conditioned saloon or in the open air seating area, and are a mix of Filipino and international cuisine. The saloon features a large flatscreen TV and a library of interesting and entertaining nature documentaries. There is also a wide selection of fish/creature books for guest use.

The Tubbataha season only runs from mid-March through early June: kilometers of pristine reefs protected by UNESCO World Heritage. Tubbataha is made up of 2 atolls: North and South. Some of their iconic dive sites will remain in your memory for ever, like Washing Machine with its unpredictable currents, but also known for having some of the best visibility in the marine park and a place visited by grey reef sharks and a great variety of tropical reef fish. Shark Airport is a wide plateau where hawksbill and green sea turtles can often be found in search of corals to munch on while whitetip reef sharks are looking for their next prey. It is also a favourite spot for night dives since it is relatively shallow and offers the chance to see fimbriated moray eels, blackspotted and giant star pufferfish.
