Day 1
Boarding of the amazing Black Pearl Palau liveaboard begins after lunch, but you could arrive at any time since the yacht only leaves the harbour in the early hours of the following day. A pick up and transfer to the boat from Koror International Airport can be arranged for you, or you can take a taxi. Alternatively, if you are already in Palau on the day of departure you can board the Black Pearl at Malakal Harbor. The crew will welcome you onboard, give you a boat briefing and assign you to your cabin. Then you can either relax on the upper deck, make use of the yacht’s wide range of entertainment, or simply enjoy dinner at 7 pm and get to know your fellow guests.
Days 2-9
For 4 days leading up to and around the full moon, you will have a chance to witness one of the spectacular natural events in the ocean - the spawning aggregations of red snapper. When diving at Full Moon early in the morning before sunrise, you will witness tens of thousands of red snappers rise up from the deep and aggregate to start the mating manoeuvres in a spectacle full of energy and excitement, while they change their colours from red to white. These huge aggregations also attract the biggest predators in Palau, hunting actively within these large schools.
Palau is world famous for its incredible diving and abundance of marine life. Normally you can expect to encounter great numbers of jacks, blackfin barracuda, snappers, reef sharks, tunas, wahoo, groupers, eagle rays, humphead wrasse, and turtles. But in the right conditions, you could also see hammerheads, bull sharks, tiger sharks, marlin, manta rays and sailfish! There are high adrenaline channel dives full of swift currents, some beautiful caverns and tunnels to explore, manta cleaning stations, some incredible wall dives, and some wrecks. There is also a great range of macro life, including leafy scorpionfish, nudibranchs, boxer crabs, cleaner shrimp, flaming scallops and stonefish. What a fantastic week you have in store!
The Black Pearl dive team will show you the very best diving possible, however, the dive site selection and exact route taken depends on the weather, tides, currents and the number of other dive vessels at a particular site. You can expect 3 dives a day during your Palau cruise, plus the possibility of sunset or night dives if suitable sites are nearby.
A typical day begins with light snacks, morning coffee and tea, followed by a briefing, then Dive 1 at 5:30 am. Full breakfast follows, then a surface interval followed by the 2nd briefing, then Dive 2. Lunch, surface interval, then the 3rd briefing and Dive 3. Then it’s a snack and beverage break. During each surface interval you can make use of the great in-water features, such as kayaks, paddleboard, even a water slide! Finally, there is a briefing for a sunset or night dive, then dinner.
Meals are served in the spacious dedicated restaurant. Daily meals include different varieties of Asian cuisine and are served buffet style. Breakfast includes cereals, yoghurt, toast, coffee, fresh fruit, juice, and hot dishes. Snacks and smoothies are also served during the day to replenish spent energy.
