Technical Diving Trip – Thailand’s WWII wrecks!

Are you interested in diving pristine untouched World War II wrecks? Then join the “Hammerhead” tour in the Gulf of Thailand onboard MV Trident, Thailand’s premier technical liveaboard which departs for this unique trip on 16 March 2008.

MV Trident is a full technical liveaboard with mixing facilities and is able to provide any blend of trimix, as well as oxygen to 200 bar. In 2005, MV Trident made headlines when she discovered the missing USS Lagarto which was lost in action in the Gulf in 1945. She has since been back to the site with the US Navy and also with the Deep Sea Dectives, John Chatterton and Richie Kohler to film the USS Lagarto.

During the World War II, the Hammerhead sank four Maru’s in the Gulf of Siam and you will be able to dive 3 of them as the 4th one, Kinrei Maru, is still undiscovered. On the 1st day of the Hammerhead trip, diving will be on Nammei Maru, an oil tanker sitting vertical. On the following day, you will dive on Sakura Maru, which is a bulk tanker also rests in an upright position.

For the next 2 or 3 days, your diving will cover the Tottori Maru which is a passenger cargo ship lying on her side. At almost 6,000 tons, there is plenty to see on this vessel. Lying in depths of between 57 and 70 metres, all 3 of the Maru’s appeared to have been torpedoed in the bow and have plenty of brass fittings. Apart from the Maru’s, exploratory dive to some undived nearby marks will also be included.

Due to the depths of the vessels, this trip is only open for technical divers. However, it is not compulsory to be trimix certified as you may use air as your bottom gas. It is also possible to combine the trip with a full trimix course if you wish to do your course on pristine WWII wrecks rather than some murky quarry!

For those diving Open Circuit who do not wish to bring along their full kit with them, Trident provides a full range of technical equipment for hire. In the near future, she will also have rebreather tanks, although you must check with us to ensure the suitability with your unit.
