Hot on the heels of winning the prestigious PADI Project AWARE Environmental Achievement Award, Matava Resort has bagged yet another major environmental title at the PADI Asia Pacific Member Awards 2009.
The PADI Asia Pacific Member Awards were developed specifically to recognise the achievements of PADI Dive Centres and Resorts contributing significantly to the growth and development of diving and Matava came out tops amongst a field of more than a 1,000 dive centres.
Mr Ian Cumming, PADI Regional Director for the Fiji Islands, said “Having visited the resort I know first-hand the mighty efforts everyone there has gone to to ensure the resort is very much the ‘Eco Adventure’ resort that has guests coming back time and again. Given the location of the resort, which adds greatly to its charm, it is a wonderful achievement that everyone involved in the resort should be very proud of!”
Matava Resort is an intimate eco-adventure escape that seamlessly blends cultural experiences with diving adventures. Based on Kadavu island, Fiji’s most pristine dive sites are right on the doorstep of Matava.
Accommodation at Matava Resort comprise traditional bures with louvre windows, private decks and hardwood floors. Up to 22 guests can be accommodated at any 1 time in comfortable, private settings with breathtaking ocean views. The resort is equipped with an on-site diving centre.
Kadavu is a Fijian island less frequented by tourists than many others, yet it boasts some of the country’s finest diving. The Great Astrolabe Reef is a Fijian diving highlight – the 4th largest barrier reef in the world. Manta rays are among the biggest drawcard here with a supporting cast including eagle rays, Napolean wrasses, and huge groupers against a backdrop of a stunning variety or vibrant hard corals.
